Demurrage & Per Diem Guarantee
If a demurrage or per diem charge results from a delay within our operational control — late dispatch, missed appointment, or documentation error — ESCS absorbs the cost. Not you. This commitment is written into every agreement, backed by our $250,000 TIA bond.

Every container type. Every complexity.

We handle the full range of drayage moves — including the difficult ones other providers decline.

Port-to-Receiver

Import containers picked up at port and delivered to your warehouse, DC, or customer facility. 20′, 40′, 45′, and 53′ containers. Live load, drop, or hook-and-drop available.

Shipper-to-Port (Export)

Pickup from shipper and delivery to port for export booking. Full documentation coordination and ERD/cut-time management from our dedicated team.

Final Destination Service

Port pickup through final delivery to end consignee. One point of accountability from the first call to proof of delivery and empty return confirmation.

Refrigerated (Reefer)

Temperature-controlled drayage for perishables and pharmaceutical cargo. Rapid dispatch and continuous monitoring to minimize time outside controlled environments.

Hazardous Materials

DOT-compliant hazmat drayage across multiple UN classifications. Certified drivers, proper placarding, and full documentation handling for complex commodity types.

Overweight Containers

Multi-state permit routing, axle weight calculations, and escort coordination when required. We manage the full overweight process — no surprises at the scale.

High Value Cargo

Enhanced security protocols for electronics, jewelry, and sensitive goods. GPS tracking and full chain-of-custody documentation from port to delivery.

Drop / Hook

Live load or drop options across all container sizes to match your facility operations and unload scheduling — flexible execution for every consignee.

Drayage Questions

Common questions from shippers and freight forwarders.

Get a Quote
What is demurrage and when does ESCS cover it?
Demurrage begins the day after your free time expires at the port — typically 4–5 business days after vessel arrival, at rates of $75–$400+ per container per day. ESCS covers demurrage when the delay is attributable to our operations: late dispatch, missed appointments, or documentation errors. We do not cover port congestion beyond our control, customs holds, or vessel delays.
What ports and rail ramps does ESCS serve?
We are actively operating at 150+ US port gateways and rail ramps including: Gulf Coast (Houston Barbours Cut & Bayport, Galveston, New Orleans), West Coast (LA/Long Beach, Seattle/Tacoma, Oakland), East Coast (Savannah, Charleston, Baltimore, NY/NJ), and interior ramps including Chicago, Dallas, Memphis, and Kansas City.
How does OpenTrack integration benefit my shipments?
OpenTrack gives us real-time access to vessel arrival data, ETA updates, Last Free Days, ERDs, port cuts, and container availability. We use this to proactively plan dispatch and alert you before charges accrue — not after.
Can you handle both import and export drayage?
Yes. For imports we pick up loaded containers at port and deliver to your facility, then return the empty. For exports we pick up from the shipper and deliver to port for export booking. Both directions carry the same demurrage guarantee and live tracking.

Intermodal Questions

Get a Quote
How does intermodal differ from standard drayage?
Intermodal moves a container across multiple transportation modes — typically drayage truck to a rail ramp, long-haul rail across the country, then drayage from the destination ramp to final delivery. ESCS handles both drayage legs and the rail booking, so one provider manages the entire move end-to-end with no handoffs.
What container sizes can move intermodally?
We handle 20′, 40′, and 53′ containers. Drop + Hook and Live Load options available. Capacity weight is 43,500 lbs. Reefer intermodal is available on select lanes with reefer-capable ramps.
Can you move cross-border into Canada and Mexico?
Yes. Via CN and CP into Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary), and via CPKC into Mexico (Monterrey, Mexico City, Guadalajara). Cross-border moves require additional customs documentation — we advise on requirements or coordinate customs brokerage as needed.
How much cheaper is intermodal vs. OTR?
On lanes over 500 miles, intermodal is typically 15–25% cheaper than OTR dry van. You typically add 1–2 days transit. Rail also produces roughly 75% less CO₂ per ton-mile — a meaningful sustainability advantage for shippers tracking Scope 3 emissions.

FTL Questions

Get a Quote
Does ESCS own its own trucks?
ESCS operates as a non-asset 3PL freight broker, accessing capacity through a network of 45,000+ qualified carriers rather than owning trucks. This gives you a broader range of capacity options and competitive market pricing — not just what's available in a single fleet.
What info do I need to get an FTL rate?
For dry van or reefer: origin zip, destination zip, pickup date, commodity, total weight, and any special requirements. For flatbed: add dimensions (L×W×H) and whether the load requires permits. Accurate weight and dimensions always produce the most accurate quote.
How quickly can you dispatch an FTL load?
For standard dry van we typically confirm a carrier within 24–48 hours of load details and pickup date. Expedited loads can often be placed within a few hours. More lead time always yields better rates and carrier selection.
Can you handle cross-border FTL into Canada or Mexico?
Yes. We have established carrier relationships for both US-Canada and US-Mexico FTL lanes. Cross-border moves require commercial invoices, packing lists, and commodity-specific documentation. We advise on requirements or coordinate customs brokerage as needed.

When your freight doesn’t
fill a full trailer

Less-than-truckload shipping is for palletized freight that’s too large for parcel but too small to fill a 53′ trailer. Your pallets share space with other shippers — you only pay for the space you use.

LTL is typically the right choice for 1–10 pallets under 15,000 lbs when cost matters more than 1–2 days of transit time. Through GTZ, you access competitive rates across 75+ national, regional, and cross-border carriers in one platform.

LTL Questions

Get a Quote
Why does the GTZ partnership matter for LTL rates?
GTZ negotiates rates across its 113,000+ customer base — you access institutional, volume-based pricing not available to individual shippers. You get the rate of a major shipper with no volume commitment, combined with ESCS’s hands-on local service.
How does freight class work and why does it matter?
Freight class (18 classes, 50–500) is assigned based on your commodity’s density, stowability, handling, and liability. It directly determines your LTL rate. Carriers re-weigh and re-measure at the terminal, so an incorrect class triggers reclassification fees. We help you verify the correct class before booking.
Can ESCS handle LTL cross-border into Canada or Mexico?
Yes. Through GTZ’s carrier network, we access cross-border LTL carriers for both US-Canada and US-Mexico lanes. Cross-border LTL requires commercial invoices, packing lists, and USMCA certificates where applicable.
What info do I need for an LTL quote?
Origin zip, destination zip, pickup date, freight class or commodity description, number of pallets, total weight, and pallet dimensions (L×W×H). Accurate data produces accurate quotes — LTL pricing is particularly sensitive to actual weight and freight class.
